After climbing to third in last week’s rankings on the basis of soundly spanking the San Francisco Dogfish, the Vancouver Nighthawks of Major League Ultimate have dipped to fifth this week after dropping a road game to the Seattle Rainmakers, 20-15.

But the team remains sanguine about the vagaries of weekly rankings.

“We try not to read too much into the rankings,”, says Kevin Underhill. “Other people have their predictions and we have our own expectations of ourselves. We are using our bye week to get back into rhythm and find our mojo again. The league is very competitive and we know any team can beat any team on any given night. We’re going to work to get back to our systems that we worked so well in the first two weeks.”

In terms of their own results against the other teams in the Western Conference, the fifth place ranking is fair; it places them below the two teams that have beaten them this year and above the team they have beaten on the way to their record of one win and two losses.

The Nighthawks return to action next weekend with a home game against the Seattle Rainmakers at the University of British Columbia’s Thunderbird Stadium on Saturday, May 10 at 7 p.m..
