Major League Ultimate has a new feature this season; Power Ranking compiled by collecting the opinions of GMs, coaches and other in-the-know people from around the league. These will be updated weekly for the rest of the season.

This week’s preseason rankings can be seen here.

It’s no surprise that the defending MLU Champion Boston Whitecaps top the list, but it’s great to see our Vancouver Nighthawks ranked number two in spite of their lowly 3-7 record last year. Please spread the news far and wide, and get ready to defend this ranking against the uninformed!

Team Captain Morgan Hibbert thinks the Nighthawks’ elevated ranking is justified.

“The core of our roster from 2013 has mostly returned, and now that we’ve had a year together playing MLU style Ultimate, we’ve been able to build on where we got to last year,” said Hibbert. “We are also a much deeper team talent-wise. We added a slew of great young kids who played on the Canada U-23 teams this past summer. This added depth will give us fresher legs later into the games. Several of these kids are so good they have already stepped into starting roles with the squad.”

After their first game of the season against the Portland Stags this Saturday, April 12, the Nighthawks home season opens in Vancouver against the San Francisco Dogfish at the University of British Columbia’s Thunderbird Stadium on Easter Sunday, April 20.
