Thunderbird Stadium – Vancouver

Located on UBC’s gorgeous campus, Thunderbird Stadium has been the home of the Vancouver Nighthawks since their inception. The stadium can comfortably seat 3,500 under the grandstand and has parking available just outside. For those fans lacking personal transportation, buses run from most SkyTrain stations. A map can be found here.

Flower Bowl

UBC’s plethora of fields lends itself well to major tournaments. After hosting the BC Junior Ultimate Championships a few weeks ago, UBC will now welcome an army of teams fighting for Flower Bowl glory. Action will be running on both Saturday and Sunday so be sure to check it out before making your way to Thunderbird Stadium for the Nighthawks’ game. Full tournament information can be found here.

Stats

Wondering how to find statistics for MLU and your Nighthawks? There are three places to look.

To find the overall MLU stats, first go to the main MLU webpage here. (You can also get there by clicking on the red and white MLU logo on the upper right on the Nighthawks website.) Under the Fanzone menu, choose Team and Player Stats. You can sort the stats however you want by clicking on the column headings, and you can also check on last year’s stats by choosing the 2013 tab.

To find a page which shows just the Nighthawks stats, go to the Nighthawks webpage here. (You can also get to the Nighthawks website from the main MLU website by choosing Nighthawks from the Teams menu.) Then choose Stats under the Team menu. Again, these stats are sortable by clicking on the column headers.

Finally, you can see the stats for a particular game by choosing Schedule and Results from the Team menu on the Nighthawks website. For any completed game, click the date on the left and you will find the stats for both teams for that game, again sortable by clicking on column headers.

MLU statistics are generally updated within one or two days after a game is completed, but it’s getting quicker all the time.

Hall of Fame inductees

The Canadian Ultimate Hall of Fame is welcoming three new inductees this year and all three are from B.C. Taking advantage of this fact, the Nighthawks will be putting on a pregame ceremony to honour the latest members. Jim Brown, Leslie Calder, and the Victoria Nomads will all be recognized for their achievements and contributions to the game of Ultimate. Further information on the inductees can be found here.

Power Rankings

The Nighthawks, despite their double overtime victory over the Rainmakers last week, saw no movement in the MLU Power Rankings. Instead, the squad sits at No.5, one behind their archrivals and once again facing them this weekend. Another win this time around would be the club’s third win in a row against the Seattle squad and emphasize the fact that the Nighthawks are serious about this playoff push. Full rankings can be found here.

Victory drinks

Looking for a place to have a few pints, grab some food, and hang out with the Nighthawks after the game? Mahony & Sons is minutes away from Thunderbird Stadium (map here) . Thanks to an all-ages family section, fans with kids in tow needn’t call it an early night on account of them. And if the company, Irish pub fare, and convenience isn’t enough, bringing in your ticket stub will earn fans 10 per cent off on game days.

Step right up
