The Vancouver Nighthawks continued to announce signed players today, adding Graeme Barber to the 2016 roster.
With the MLU Season right around the corner, the Vancouver Nighthawks have begun to announce their 2016 signings, today adding Graeme Barber to the roster, joining Erik Hunter who was announced last week.
2016 will be Barber’s (6’0″, 165lbs) rookie season in the MLU, having spent 2015 in Australia, playing for the club team Colony Plunder out of Sydney.
A native of New Westminster, BC, Barber was introduced to ultimate at an early age by his middle school PE teacher, former Nighthawk Kirk Savage. By Grade 12, Barber and his classmates were competing at the British Columbia Junior Ultimate Championships, breaking their 18th seed with a 5th place finish.
Barber spent his collegiate years playing for and eventually captaining University of Victoria’s UVictim along with former Nighthawks Kevin Underhill and Jordan Tessarolo. In 2013, Barber and Underhill started the Annual Douglas Bowl, a showcase between British Columbia’s two elite men’s and women’s college teams – University of Victoria and University of British Columbia.
Prior to his time in Australia, Barber joined Vancouver’s Blackfish Club Team in 2009, captaining the team in 2010 and 2011. In 2013, Barber played for the Skysharks Mixed Club Team out of Victoria, BC, before being his international travels across Europe and Australia. During his time with Colony Plunder in Sydney, Barber won a bronze medal at Australian Club Nationals.
