Week 10: Portland Stags (6-1) at Vancouver Nighthawks (4-4)
When: June 15, 2014 at 6 p.m. PST
Where: Thunderbird Stadium – Vancouver
Jerseys Off Our Backs
15 Season Ticket Holders and 10 fans from the stands at the game will be coming down to the field following the Vancouver Ultimate League Awards after the game to select players whose jerseys they will receive after the season. The 15 Season Ticket Holders have already been notified, but even if you are not a Season Ticket Holder, as long as you come to the game you still have a chance to participate. The Nighthawks Entertainment Team will include five additional invitations to participate with prizes they distribute during the game, and the Social Media Team will hand out another five to Super Fans they spot in the stands.
Nighthawks Welcome VUL Captains
The Vancouver Ultimate League is hosting their annual Captains Wing Ding at Matthews Field just outside Thunderbird Stadium prior to the Nighthawks game on Sunday. As part of their participation in the event, and as recognition that the VUL is a partner of the Nighthawks, the captains get free entrance to the game after the Wing Ding, plus they get access to discounted tickets for groups made up of members of their team.
And due to the Wing Ding, there will be several food trucks set up outside the stadium, so everyone coming to the game can get some tasty vittles to help them get them ready to cheer on the Nighthawks.
After several weeks mired at No. 5 in the MLU Power Ranking, the Nighthawks finally got some recognition this week for their recent winning streak, moving up to No. 4. The only Western Conference team above them is Sunday’s opponent the Portland Stags, so with a win on Sunday, maybe they can move up another notch or two. Full rankings can be found here.
Wondering how to find statistics for MLU and your Nighthawks? There are three places to look.
To find the overall MLU stats, first go to the main MLU webpage here. (You can also get there by clicking on the red and white MLU logo on the upper right on the Nighthawks website.) Under the Fanzone menu, choose Team and Player Stats. You can sort the stats however you want by clicking on the column headings, and you can also check on last year’s stats by choosing the 2013 tab.
To find a page which shows just the Nighthawks stats, go to the Nighthawks webpage here. (You can also get to the Nighthawks website from the main MLU website by choosing Nighthawks from the Teams menu.) Then choose Stats under the Team menu. Again, these stats are sortable by clicking on the column headers.
Finally, you can see the stats for a particular game by choosing Schedule and Results from the Team menu on the Nighthawks website. For any completed game, click the date on the left and you will find the stats for both teams for that game, again sortable by clicking on column headers.
MLU statistics are generally updated within one or two days after a game is completed, but it’s getting quicker all the time.
Looking for a place to have a few pints, grab some food, and hang out with the Nighthawks after the game? Mahony & Sons is minutes away from Thunderbird Stadium (map here) . Thanks to an all-ages family section, fans with kids in tow needn’t call it an early night on account of them. And if the company, Irish pub fare, and convenience isn’t enough, bringing in your ticket stub will earn fans 10 per cent off on game days.
